Cassie J. Medura

After many years of working in the area of family law at VanCott, Cassie started her own firm in 2009 and was joined by Jarrod Jennings to form Jennings & Medura, LLC, in 2010. While exclusively practicing family law for the last 10 years, Cassie has expertise in all aspects of the specialty, including complex financial issues in divorce, as well as in high conflict custody litigation.

Jennings & Medura has gained a statewide reputation as being one of the best family law firms in Utah, earning the respect of family law commissioners, District Court Judges, financial experts, and mental health professionals in the family law community.

Cassie herself has been recognized for many years in a row by her peers as one of Utah’s “Legal Elite” in the area of Family Law by Utah Business magazine. She has also received high ratings in Martindale-Hubbellfor competence and ethics by her peers. She was invited to join the exclusive American Academy of Matrimonial lawyers and passed the highly competitive exam required to become a member.

“My goal in family law cases is to efficiently and effectively assist families through the divorce process with as little emotional and financial impact as possible,” Cassie says. “In cases where litigation is necessary, I provide zealous advocacy backed by decades of courtroom experience to protect my clients, their children, and their financial interests.”

Cassie’s personal story informs her work to this day: Born and raised in Utah, Cassie grew up in Davis County and now lives in Salt Lake City’s Avenues neighborhood with her husband and two daughters. “I was married young, had a child, and later divorced,” she says. “My son from my first marriage is an adult and lives on his own.”

A lifetime resident of Utah and having gone through a divorce herself, Cassie understands on a personal level the difficult issues that arise in divorce as well as the unique cultural, religious and political issues faced by parties divorcing in Utah.

Cassie attended the University of Utah on a full scholarship and received her undergraduate degree in Political Science. She graduated from the U in less than four years, graduating Cum Laude with honors and a 3.97 GPA. She attended the U’s S.J. Quinney College of Law as a single mother and graduated in 1998 at the top of her class, with accolades and honors in several subjects.

During law school, she clerked at the Utah State Office of the Guardian ad Litem. After graduating from law school, she was selected among many applicants for a highly sought-after position working for a year as a law clerk on the Utah Court of Appeals for the Honorable Pamela Greenwood. After her clerkship, she began her law career – practicing commercial and civil litigation at the firm of VanCott, Bagley, Cornwall & McCarthy, which at that time was one of the oldest and most prestigious law firms in Utah. Cassie gained more than a decade of litigation and courtroom experience during her time at VanCott and was elected as one of only a handful of women shareholders of the firm. She also served on VanCott’s compensation committee and was in charge of the paralegals in the firm.

Cassie donates hundreds of hours each year to help litigants who cannot afford legal services and she has represented children for more a decade as a court-certified Private Guardian ad Litem in high conflict custody cases where allegations of physical, emotional, sexual abuse or neglect exist.

Cassie has been trained and certified in collaborative law.
